First Steps A New Members Must Take After joining The WBE.Network

1. Read the FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions).

2. Review the Study Section at your own pace before proceeding to the Trade Bloc.

3. Watch each of the online Study Videos. (You will receive the Critical Elements "Import/Export: Business of Details" DVD in the mail.)

4. Click on TIPS AND PROCEDURE - Please READ and MEMORIZE.

This is your basic foundation. It lays the groundwork for a full
understanding of how to handle a trade lead.

5. Read the entire Practical Study Guide for U.S. Export Trade Agents.

6. Click on International Trade Encyclopedia.

a. Print out and read Chapters 7, 9, 10, 12, and 13.
b. Read the other chapters in your spare time.

7. Become familiar with Incoterms, Acronyms and Abbreviations, and the International Trade Glossary. Refer to them as needed.

8. Create your own New Business Name. This name should relate to the trade industry and identify the nature of your business.

Examples: Smith International, Smith Global Services, Smith Worldwide Trading

9. Visit www.irs.gov to obtain a tax id # or ein # for your Business name

10. Create a new Email address with one of the FREE online services.

Examples: yahoo.com - gmail.com - hotmail.com, etc.

How to search for buyers

Search for Buyers in the Independent Trade Databases (Links)

Follow Tips and Procedure to help you move forward with no confusion.

1. Refer to the instructions on:

· How to Access the Buyers Trade Bloc
· How to Access the International Supplies and Sellers

2. Search for buyers first as they will give you their specific requirements:

· Type of Commodity
· Target Price (the price they want to pay)
· Method of Payment and Payment Terms
· Shipping Terms
· Port of Shipping
· LOI or ICPO and BCL Documents

3. Now check for the following on the BUYERS ORDERS:

· Product name and description
· Quantity of product requested and dollar amount of purchase
· Preferred method of shipping, the exact destination
· Contact and other necessary information

4. Choose how you want to communicate with BUYERS.

· Emailing is FREE (e-mail addresses always have the @ symbol in them.)
· If you see http://www this is a web address not an email address.
· If there is no email address in the buyer's order, contact them by the next best method.
· Search the Internet for a FREE online FAX service.
· Don't neglect regular mail, either.
· Make contact by whatever means possible.
· Be persistent.

How to search for suppliers

Search for Suppliers and Sellers in The Member Section under the heading U. S. SUPPLIERS.

1. Use the Thomas Regional as your main source for Industrial Product Suppliers. (Machinery, Chemicals, Auto Parts, Construction Materials)

Be sure to check the Company Profile for each company you select in the Thomas Regional to see what countries they export to.

2. Click on the words Independent Trade Database (Links).

· These Databases contain International SUPPLIERS and BUYERS.
· Sign-up (register) on all FREE Independent Trade Database (Links)"
· Here you will find numerous database sites that have both buyers and suppliers for all general products.
· Click on each link.
· Complete the FREE membership applications so you can access their databases of buyer and seller information.
· Establish a new user name and password other than the one that we gave to you for WBE.NET and use the new pass codes for log in to all independent databases.

3. There are also PAID sites available for registrations if you choose

· PAID sites are not required and are available only as an option.

4. How to Search: in the Member Section look for TRADE BLOC then U.S. Suppliers.

· Contact suppliers after you have located a Buyer's request.

5. Your supplier may provide some or all of the following:

· Product and Shipping Quotes
· FOB or CIF Shipping Cost
· FCO documents
· 2%-5% Performance Bond
· Inspection Certificate
· Pro-Forma Invoice/Shipping Schedule
· Locating a Freight Forwarder

6. Request Learning Support if you need help to determine Commissions and/or mark-up suggestions.

Example: MT (Metric Ton) orders always add .50 cents to $1.00 with a MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity) of 12,500mt (Rice, Sugar, Fertilizer, Urea etc.)

SUMMARY

LET'S REVIEW:

1) Create your Business Name and Email Address

2) Type Buyer's Letter and Supplier's Letter in MS Word or your email folder

3) Register in Thomas Regional (U.S. Manufacturers and Suppliers)

4) Register in all FREE Independent Trade Databases (links)

5) Print and Memorize Tips and Procedure

CONSIDER THIS:

After you have registered in Independent Databases (links) look for lead types or offer types. You will see Agent and/or Biz Opportunities. These are businesses looking for people like you to help them buy or sell products. They will provide information on their products and helpful tools to get more buyers. Once you develop a relationship, they will pay you fees as you bring more buyers to them.
